Wolverine boys win golf opener over West Sioux
The South O’Brien Boys Golf Team faced West Sioux at Hawarden on Tuesday, April 3 to open the season. The Wolverines won the meet 197-205. The top three players, all from South O’Brien, shot 48’s. After a handicap card playoff, sophomore Carter Halverson earned medalist honors, senior Dylan Strubbe took second, and junior David Bottjen finished in third. The fourth place medal went to West Sioux’s Alec McEntaffer, who shot a 49.
Other cards for the Wolverines included senior Branden Puhrmann and sophomore Derek Paulsen with 53’s and Aaron Funkhouser, who shot a 55. Coach Kris Faust said, “It was awesome to have a little friendly competition among our own players.” She added, “With 19 guys on the team, the competition for varsity spots will continue.”
