The Iowa Jazz Band Competition is and annual event showcasing the 60 Iowa’s best high school bands. Four classes compete with 15 teams in each class. Class is based on school size. South O’Brien competes at the smallest Class 1A.
South O’Brien has been and Iowa Jazz Competition regular since 2004 bringing home at least 1 championship and more runner up achievements. They did it again this year under the direction of Rebecca Meyer.
Competition was held at Ames on Tuesday April 4. South O’Brien performed at 1:30, putting out one of their best performances. They were outscored only by Tri-Center.
Individual South O’Brien performers Dante Johnson and Grant Wagner were two of the four Class 1A Outstanding Performers.
