Gussie Heithus

Services for Gisela “Gussie” A. Heithus, age 83, of Paullina who passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Her funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina with Rev. Donald Meyer ~ officiating.
Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina.
Visitation with family present will be from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.
Gisela Ann Heithus, the daughter of Johann Friedric Diedrich and Marie Anna (Bade) Heithus was born on September 26, 1939, in Wachendorf, Germany. She was baptized in Germany and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. She was raised through the 8th grade in Germany before her family came to Germantown, Iowa. She learned English at St. John Lutheran School. Gussie began working for Kirby Jacobs candling eggs for over 10 years and then she began her waitress and cook career. She worked at many establishments including the Line Shack, J & D, Lange’s Café, Monte’s, Paullina Golf Course and the Hawkeye over the course of over 60 years. Gussie passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 9 days.
Gussie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She enjoyed crocheting, going on boat rides, reading romance novels, baking, cooking, flowers and being with the morning coffee group. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She will always be known for her famous Gussie’s baked chicken along with many other favorites people requested.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, John Heithus, Jeanie (Troy) Johns, Jared Heithus; grandchildren, Brittany (Codey) Christensen, Jordan and Dalton, Kylie Johns, Jasmine and Dawson Heithus; four great grandchildren, Ryley, Alayna, Felicity and Elijah; sister, Wally Heithus; also, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
