Pork in the Pantry Program

The Pork in the Pantry Program assists local food pantries through the County Pork Producer organizations. O’Brien County Pork Producers teamed up with the Food Bank at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley and the O’Brien County Veterans Affairs Food Pantries. The Iowa Pork Producers Association provides a special program. It will reimburse the County organization up to $1,000 for pork products donated. Nelson Locker in Hartley supplied this program with bacon and ground pork.
A big thank you goes out to the volunteers at Trinity United Church of Christ, Katie Ginger at the Veterans Affairs in Primghar, Josh Paskert from Nelson Lockers and LeRoy Raabe from the O’Brien County Pork Producers for helping with this program.
Katie Ginger, O’Brien County Veterans’ Affairs Administrator developed the new veterans food pantry. The project has shown extraordinary success and continues to improve its service to the 950 known O’Brien County veterans. Her office administers all veterans programs and services. For more information or to make an appointment contact the VA office at 957-0031. The office is open Monday through Thursday 8:30-4:00pm. The food pantry is open during the same hours. No appointment or application is necessary, only military service verification.
LeRoy Raabe is available to provide additional information about Pork Producers generally and its special program to provide pork for veterans or those in need. He can be reached at 712-260-3567.
