4-H RABBIT WORKSHOP: A 4-H Rabbit Workshop will be held on April 3, 1993, 1:30 p.m. at the Farm Bureau Building in Primghar. Don Pingel of Cherokee, will answer questions on the care and management of rabbits. All 4-H rabbit project members are encouraged to attend.
ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT The Sutherland Commercial Club is sponsoring an Easter egg hunt for children age 0-6th grade. Saturday April 10th on the grounds of Millie’s Rest Home. 1:30 p.m. Watch for next week news story.
County worries that state will “dump” mental health costs on them – PRIMGHAR – The O’Brien County Board of Supervisors received, what appears to be, bad news Monday. According to Paul Williams, Department of Human Services Director, the supervisors should be concerned about the Human Services Appropriations Bill pending in the Iowa legislature. The bill is an attempt by the state to save money and the end result will be higher costs for the counties. If the bill becomes law, mentally ill and developmentally disabled people now supported by the state will become the responsibility of the county.
FAREWELL PARTY A farewell party for Postmaster Judy Harrison will be held April 7th at the Post Office between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The public is invited.

CONSIGNMENT AUCTION – Saturday, April 16 at 10:00 a.m. Sutherland will hold its annual Commercial Club Consignment Auction. Farm machinery will be selling at 10:00 a.m. with furniture and household goods following. For consignments contact Jim Johnson at Security State Bank, Renil Van Overbeke, Bob Syndergaard or Alan Mills. AH parties must have a listing of their consignment articles turned into the committee by March 31, to be properly advertised. Consignments will be taken up to the sale date, but those taken after March 31 will not be listed on the sale bills.
Named to All-Tourney Team – Sophomore forward, Beth Jurgcnsen, has been named to All State Tournament Team by the Iowa Newspaper Association. Beth was a leading scorer in the Sioux Valley Conference for the 1982-83 season, with an average of 30 points a game, with 86% free throw shooting, and with a 49% field goal percentage. Beth was also named to 1st Team All Conference as a forward.
JAYCEE’S GARBAGE PICKUP – The Sutherland Jaycees are sponsoring a Garbage Pick-up on Saturday, April 9. They will pick up anything that the regular garbage man will not. Residents must have their pick-up items on the curb by 1:00 p.m. Large items too heavy to be removed from the house or garage by yourself will be removed for you by calling 446-3383.
Elementary Band – The combined 5th and 6th grade – which makes up the elementary band – has a total of 43 students involved and each week a section leader is chosen on the basis of ability, improvement, and practice time. A new additional award has been started to let everyone know who is the hardest worker in band – the same criteria is used basically as section leader, but it’s the student who gives that extra effort who is chosen. (Some kids practice 5-8 hours a week.) Students selected for band player of the week include: Joanne Niklcs, Corey Hansen, Neil Horton, Kirk Struve, Ollie Sargent. Darren Durst and Andi Rehder.
Win’s Catering Service To Hold Open House – Mrs. Winifred Waggoner will hold Open House in her new location on Second Street in downtown Sutherland on Saturday, March 31, between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00 p m. Everyone is invited to come to view her wedding reception display.
