Process of termination begins for Austin… – Paullina Community school board, voting 4-1 during a special session Monday morning, agreed to begin “the process of termination” against Paullina Superintendent Georgine Austin. The process, if completed, will terminate Austin’s contract at the completion of the current 1982-83 school year. This is Austin’s first in the school system. Director William Simm recorded the dissenting vote, in effect saying he was against the idea of terminating the contract. With nearly 100 in attendance, board chairwoman Karen Louscher addressed the group, saying three people had requested an audience before the board. First to speak was high school band instructor Frank Hoskins. Hoskins, speaking for the teachers of the school district, read from a prepared statement. He said the “atmosphere “ at the school is very “conducive” to education. Continuing, Hoskins praised Austin and gave her a “vote of confidence “ from the entire teaching staff.
Bruce Rohwer then addressed the board, saying he represented a group of “concerned citizens,” a group of about 50 local residents who had held a meeting prior to Monday morning’s special board meeting, and said the school carried a “positive” image in the community. He said he hoped Superintendent Austin was rehired.
Horace Autenrieth, also speaking for the concerned citizens’ group, said he wanted to relay two points of concern bred by the group. First, the group wants Austin rehired, and secondly, the group hopes there is, in the future, more communication between the board and the superintendent, and the board and the community.
