Vote March 7
Volunteers and officials with South O’Brien Community School District along with experts from engineering and finance spent many evenings informing voters of the South O’Brien Community about a proposed bond issue. If approved, the bonds will fund construction and improvement projects at both the high school facility and the elementary building.
The effort was for voters and taxpayers to know and have the opportunity to ask questions about the projects involved.
The proposed projects improve locker room and stage space for performing arts. Construction for better high school security and administration, ag and industrial technology classes are big parts of the plan. More construction will add to the science wing at the high school, too. A new space for weight lifting, open to the public is also planned. If the bond passes, the north campus at Paullina will become the district administration building and alternative high school classrooms. Other remodeling to existing space to add a classroom and storage space improves usage and organization within the building. Parking and demolition of the 1925 Paullina building are also proposed to improve the overall ability of South O’Brien to deliver next generation education.
For thorough explanations of each part of the overall $25 million project go to our website at www.belltimescourier.com. Superintendent Wade Riley sat with Mari Radtke and provided in-depth information about each of the major parts of the project including size, square footage and education tools in each of the main academic areas.
