Republican Women to meet – The O’Brien County Republican Women will meet Feb. 26 at the Court House in Primghar. Paullina will host the coffee at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. County first, second, and third” place winners of the IFRW essay contest will read their essays. Prizes and certificates will be presented by Elizabeth Den Hartog, youth involvement chairman. County Supervisors and County Auditor Barbara Kreibaum will discuss the 1993 county budget and changes made to comply with the American Disabilities Act. O’Brien County Republican Women Program 1993 meetings begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Court House in Primghar. Coffee is served at 9 a.m. Future meetings and the scheduled program are: April 23, Sheldon’ serving, “Flags.”
Save our county courthouse meeting set – A meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6, in the Courtroom of the O’Brien County Courthouse at Primghar regarding possible state-wide rural county courthouse closings. Invited to attend the meeting to express their views on the, subject are State Representative Richard Vande Hoef of Harris, State Representative Wilmer Rensink of Orange City, State Senator Thomas Miller of Cherokee and State Senator Linn Fuhrman of Aurelia. County courthouse consolidation was proposed in a report last year prepared by Governor Branstad’s Fisher Commission. More recently, Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Arthur McGivern, informed the Iowa Legislature that unless the judiciaries’ proposed budget was approved, certain county clerk of court offices may have to be closed. Counties throughout the state have been organizing special meetings with their legislators to voice their opposition to any such plan to close courthouses. All interested individuals are not. only invited but encouraged to attend this meeting.

Personal Enrichment Club to Start in Sutherland – On Wednesday, January 12, a Personal Enrichment Club for Women will be meeting in Sutherland. The club is designed to help members cope with everyday problems, improve relationships both in the family and with others and live happier, more effective Christian lives. Materials presented were personally developed by Dr. Clyde Marramore, noted Christian psychologist and author, and are psychologically sound and biblically based. They help members gain insight into understanding why they feel and act as they do. Kay Gopperton will be holding meetings at her home the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. A free introductory lesson will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 1983. NOTICE – All Liberty and Waterman Township property owners can have their Homestead and Military Exemptions signed at the Mary Ann Fiddelke home in Calumet (446-2406) on January 10-15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dog taxes or licenses can also be paid at this time. No personal property tax or crop reports are handled. There will be NO cards sent to individual owners as to this notice.
Calumet News – Mr. and Mrs. Justen Ginger were Saturday dinner guests in the home of Mrs. Lill Bohrns. Dawn and Doug Small of Spencer spent from Sunday, Dec. 26th until Wed., Dec. 29th visiting in the home of Mrs. Martha Groesing. Mr. and Mrs. Claudius Sieh of Paullina were Saturday afternoon visitors and luncheon guests in the home of Mrs. Elsie Clausen and Anna Peters. Mrs. Ricka Mews, and Oscar Mews were Christmas Day dinner guests in the home of Mrs. H.L. Bloodgood of Paullina.
