St. Mary’s scores early and often in beating Wolverine girls
A 46-point first half boosted Remsen St. Mary’s past South O’Brien 70-29 February 4 at Paullina. The Hawks, ranked fourth in Class 1A, improved to 19-1 while the Wolverines remained winless at 0-20.
St. Mary’s shot nearly 50 percent, going 26-for-53 from the floor. From three-point range alone they were 6-of-13. The home team was 12-of-47 for 26 percent. They were good on half of their 10 long-range shots. From the free throw line the Hawks were 12-of-19 and South O’Brien 0-of-6.
Taja Conley knocked down three treys and finished with 11 points. Marissa Ebel hit two shots from downtown to score six points. Takara Conley and Tatiana Conley each tallied four points while Reagan Draper and Lindsey Einck scored two apiece. Draper passed for three assists and Takara Conley added two dimes.
Rebound totals showed Alyssa Van Beek with five, Tatiana Conley with four and Ebel with three. Samantha Wilbur and Reese Farquhar each blocked a shot. Taja Conley came away with three steals and Tatiana Conley engineered two thefts. St. Mary’s had 14 turnovers on the night. The Wolverines turned the ball over 27 times.
