Offense clicks for Unity in win over Wolverine boys
Unity Christian was able to get baskets when needed and then, in the final half minute, make all six of its free throws to keep South O’Brien at arm’s length and pick up a 69-57 War Eagle Conference win January 24 at Paullina. The Wolverines made several runs, but the visitors had an answer each time.
The Knights shot 42 percent, going 21-for-50 from the floor. They drained nine treys and were an excellent 18-of-22 at the free throw line. South O’Brien converted 23 of 62 shots for 37 percent. The host team hit four three-pointers and was 7-of-11 at the line.
Leading scorer for the Wolverines was David Bottjen with 18 points. Boston Riedemann scored 12 points, Ben Woodall 10, Hudson Oolman six, Willie Conley four, Sawyer Honkomp three and Dain Moermond and Derek Paulsen two apiece. The team’s 11 assists included four from Bottjen, three from Woodall and two from Riedemann.
A number of players were active on the boards. The rebound stats showed Riedemann with eight, Conley with six, Oolman, Woodall and Bottjen each with four, Moermond with three and Honkomp with one. Woodall also came away with three steals. Each team committed 13 turnovers.
