The results of the communit survey distributed to households in the Archer zip code were considered by council on January 10. Out of the responses received there was an overwhelming support for going forward with the project including many of the features proposed at a community meeting in the fall. The biggest concern expressed within the survey replies was how property taxes would be affected. The plan calls for the facility to include a library, fire station, community room, outside accessible restrooms and maybe a city office. The comments were discussed. The idea of creating a campground near the city park was brought up and received very positively by council.
Several appointments were made. The City Emergency Operation Plan was noted for updates. A few budget questions were clarified, specifically for new building engineering, street projects and crosswalks. Council decided to budget $2500 to the engineering expenses in the current fiscal year and for the 23/24 fiscal year. They addressed unpaid water bills and passed the resolution to approve the contract with Town and Country Disposal.
City Clerk Sandy Fritz provided salary information to council. She explained her average hours per month, 15-17, and asked for a $200 per year raise, from $6300 to $6500 per year. Troy Iedema asked if the $200 is enough [of a raise]. After more discussion, council passed a resolution to increase her salary to $6750.00.
Archer Council will meet on February 7 instead of February 14 for the holiday.
