Akron-Westfield tops Wolverine girls
South O’Brien failed to reach double digit scoring in any quarter and fell to Akron-Westfield 52-25 January 20 at Paullina. The loss dropped the Wolverines to 0-6 in the War Eagle Conference.
Neither team shot particularly well but the Westerners took 20 more shots. From the floor South O’Brien was 10-of-41 (24 percent) and the visitors 18-of-61 (30 percent). The Wolverines made one trey in 14 attempts while Akron-Westfield was 5-of-29 from three-point territory. The Westerners also got to the free throw line more often. They were 11-of-25 from the stripe compared to 4-of-10 for the home team.
Taja Conley scored 10 points with Reagan Draper adding six and Tatiana Conley three. Scoring two points apiece were Takara Conley, Alyssa Van Beek and Samantha Wilbur. Takara Conley notched two assists.
Tatiana Conley was the leading rebounder with five. Taja Conley, Van Beek and Draper each pulled down four rebounds. Wilbur stole the ball twice. Getting one steal apiece were Taja Conley, Takara Conley, Tatiana Conley, Van Beek, Draper and Ashlyn Gimer. South O’Brien was guilty of 27 turnovers. The Westerners turned the ball over 17 times.
