FAREWELL APPRECIATION COFFEE – A Farewell Appreciation Coffee for Ron Chapman will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, February 1, 200 2 at the Laue Community Room.
ICE FISHING SEMINAR AND TOURNAMENT – The O’Brien County Conservation Board will be hosting an ice fishing seminar and tournament on February 2, 2002 The event will be held at Mill Creek State Park, located a mile east of Paullina on Hwy 10 Registration begins in the lodge at 10:00, the seminar starts at 10:30. and the tournament takes place from noon until 2:45. Individuals must attend the seminar in order to participate in the tournament A grand prize open to all ages will be awarded for the largest game fish For participants under 18 years old there wilt be prizes for the biggest bass, bluegill and crappie There is no charge for the event, and all ages are encouraged to attend Bring your own equipment, bait and lunch Preregistration is not required It you would like more information, please contact the naturalist at 7I2-2254.
There was a large turnout at the Tonya Honkomp Benefit held Sunday in Primghar. Proceeds from the benefit will be used to help cover medical expenses. The benefit was sponsored by the Primgha r Jaycees. The Aid Association to Lutherans/Lutheran Brotherhood Branch 8073 also provided up to $1,000 in matching fuhds. Donations can still be sent to PO Box 298, Primghar, IA 51245 or dropped off at one of the many marked containers in area businesses. South O’Brien High School students shave principal’s head – l a the spirit of the true meaning of Christmas the South O’Brien students and staff recently joined together to raise funds for the needy in O’Brien County. They collected over $1,50.0 which was donated to O’Brien County SOS for the purpose of providing warm outerwear for those who couldn’t afford winter coats, boots, mittens and hats. After reaching the original.goal of $750, High School Principal Shaefer allowed the chemistry class to use their chemical knowledge to dye his hair from brown to blonde. He then challenged the students to raise even more money and promised to allow them to shave his head if they collected over $1,000. The students were up for the challenge and raised a total of $1.566 44, more than double their original goal Mr Shaefer is now proudly walking around with a lot less hair.

Primghar Playhouse try-outs – The Primghar Community Playhouse will be presenting the comedy, “The Curious Savage,” on April 3, 4 and 5 at the Primghar Community Building. Arlyce Ransom will be the director and Jeanne Charlton will be the assistant director. Tryouts for production will be Friday, January 24 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, January 25 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Primghar Community Building. If you would like to tryout but cannot come on Friday or Saturday, just give Arlyce a call at 757- 4405 and she will set up a special time to meet with you.
SOHS Swing Show & Soup Supper set for January 25 – Swing Show The South O’Brien High School Music Department will present their annual Swing Show on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. in the East gymnasium in Paullina. The theme is “As Time Goes By” and the night will feature the Swing Choir with some “oldies but goodies”. The Jazz Band will perform some old Big Band standards and also a few rock tunes from the 1980’s. Both groups will be performing their state contest literature in the program.
