Steady offense lifts MMCRU over Wolverine girls
MMCRU enjoyed consistent scoring in all four quarters and posted a 61-35 War Eagle Conference win over South O’Brien January 6 at Paullina. With the loss, the Wolverines slipped to 0-4 in conference play and 0-9 overall.
Alyssa Van Beek scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the home team. Marissa Ebel finished with eight points and five boards. Taja Conley contributed seven points, three assists and two steals. Takara Conley and Tatiana Conley each had two points and six rebounds. Also scoring two points apiece were Abby Nelson, Regan Draper and Samantha Wilbur. Takara Conley and Nelson each recorded two assists and Wilbur came down with five rebounds.
South O’Brien made 13 of its 54 shot attempts for 24 percent. That included going 3-for-14 from three-point territory. The Wolverines sank half of their 12 free throws. MMCRU shot 41 percent with 22 makes in 54 tries. The Royals connected on six of 24 three-point launches and were 11-of-18 at the charity stripe.
MMCRU won the rebound battle 34 to 24 and committed just seven turnovers. The Wolverines turned the ball over 23 times.
