Primghar Roller Skating Rink Kicks Off Fundraising Program

Terry Morris who owns storage units in Primghar is the first to donate to an effort to add to and replace some of the skating rinks roller skates. The roller skating rink has had many updates and improvements over the most recent two years. Since certain sizes of skates, 6, 7 and 8 are the most popular and run out quickly, it was decided to find a way to provide more of those sizes, especially and perhaps replace a few, if needed. The skates are in great condition, but are years old. Don Steffens took great care of the facility and the skates during his years there. That has been passed on to Tanner Hedberg.
In order to make the necessary purchases a program just got started. A business, civic organization, individual or other interested parties can donate $500. That $500 will pay for a free skate session and buy one pair of roller skates. Each new pair of skates costs $135.00. All donations to this cause are welcome. City Clerk Carol Chicoine hopes that this idea can generate one free skate/pair of skates each month during the skating season. The first free skate is scheduled for Sunday January 29 from 1:30-3:30. Everyone is welcome. Drinks and candy will be available at regular price.
The Primghar skating rink is open on Saturdays from 1:30 – 3:30 and 7:30 – 9:30. Private parties are welcome. Interested persons can call the city office at 957-2435 to make reservations.
