Wolverines lose in three to Remsen St. Mary’s
Remsen St. Mary’s improved to 5-2 in War Eagle Conference play with a 3-0 victory over South O’Brien October 4 at Paullina. The loss dropped the Wolverines to 2-6 in the conference and 5-18 on the season.
After falling behind 3-0, South O’Brien came back to tie set one at 8-8. The Wolverines trailed 11-10 before St. Mary’s went on a 10-2 run that propelled the Hawks to a 25-17 victory. The second set was tied 3-3 but then St. Mary’s moved out to a 16-6 advantage. South O’Brien closed the gap to four at 21-17 prior to the Hawks scoring the final four points of the set to win 25-17. St. Mary’s raced out to a 9-0 lead in set three. The Wolverines never got closer than seven points the rest of the way, losing 25-16.
St. Mary’s erred on only two of 74 serves for 97.3 percent efficiency. The Wolverines were 45-of-52 at the service line for 87 percent. Payton Farquhar served an error-free 9-of-9.
South O’Brien got 10 kills from Tatiana Conley and eight from Marissa Ebel. Whitney Einck notched 14 set assists and Ashlynn Gunnerson three. Brooklyn Edwards recorded a solo block while Karlee Warnke and Maddie Johnson combined for another. The 78 digs included 18 from Ebel, 13 from Warnke and 12 each from Farquhar and Jinger Nieuwenhuis.
