Outdoor Classroom

On Thursday, September 8th, 2022, the O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District hosted the 54th O’Brien County 6th Grade Outdoor Classroom. The 6th grade students from Sheldon Community, South O’Brien, Sanborn Christian, Zion St, John Lutheran, and their teachers along with chaperones spent the day at the Prairie Heritage Center.
They began their day with cookies, milk or juice sponsored by Western Iowa Dairy Alliance, O’Brien Farm Bureau, and the O’Brien County Soil & Water Conservation District.
Sessions included: Predator/Prey (Hannah Hernandez of the Prairie Heritage Center), Fishing (Michael Sundall – Pheasants Forever) Spears (Mark Wilson – Park Ranger), Soil Health (Andrew Koehlmoos – NRCS), Furs – (Travis Scott – PHC), Prairie Life (Kerisa Pingel – Sanford Museum), Water Olympics (Riley White- O’Brien & Sioux County State Technician), Bees – (Philip Westra – Sanborn Christian Reformed Church),
