Community meeting draws a large crowd – Approximately 120 Primghar citizens converged in the Community Building last Wednesday evening for the much-anticipated town meeting to discuss what turned out to be four town projects and not three, as had been advertised. “It was an excellent turnout,” said City Administrator David Phipps the next day. “On several issues, we got some important feedback from residents of the community which was the purpose of the meeting.” Primghar Advancement Corporation (PAC) President Steve Wittrock welcomed the crowd to the 7 p.m. gathering. “This is a different format than other past meetings,” he said. “We need to know what direction we need to go.” Wittrock then introduced Phipps, who was Facilitator for the evening. After thanking everyone for coming, Phipps named and explained the four topics to be presented; 1) Senior Living Housing, 2) TCA, 3) New Fire Station/Ambulance Building and 4) Community Building Remodel. Everyone was asked to complete and turn in the survey that was passed out. The same survey was mailed with the utility bills last Monday. Phipps then introduced Jim Streuferd, Primghar Care Center Administrator, and Bruce Mehlhop, owner of Primghar Care Center, who explained the Senior Living Housing proposal. Streuferd said the current plan is to build a series of duplexes in groups of six next to Primghar Care Center, joined to it by a common hallway. According to implications that evening, the units will be for sale. Each will have its own kitchen, bedroom, bath, and living room. Garages will be built if the interest is there. Implications were that when the purchaser is no longer in need of the unit, the corporation will buy it back for resale, but the details are not firm. Additional services were discussed. Possible options include light housekeeping, help with bathing, and grounds and building maintenance. Many questions were posed to the two gentlemen who didn’t have a lot of firm figures to satisfy the inquiries. “This is designed just to be a preliminary,” explained Mehlhop.FARMERS MARKET – The Farmers Market is open with fresh garden produce every Friday from 9 30 a.m. to 11 30 a.m. It is located on the southeast corner of the square.

Boards approve early sale of non-used supplies by ind. Boards – After approving the continued use of the Wolverine spirit flag (see story) the school boards of the South O’Brien school districts settled in to consider requests for purchases and hear a request by the Sutherland board to sell some of the equipment and supplies owned by that school that are not and will not be used by the shared districts. Sutherland Board President Chuck Virgil asked the other two boards what their feelings were concerning the equipment and supplies not being used and not likely to be used currently in storage at one or more of the districts. It is Sutherland’s desire to sell their property that falls In that category.
