Chuck Van Overbeke

Chuck Van Overbeke, 61, of Alden, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at his Alden home. Chuck donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Counsell Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for the family.
Renil “Chuck” Charles Van Overbeke was born on Septmeber 25, 1960 in Des Moines, Iowa to Renil Joseph and Audrey Marie (Ness) Van Overbeke. Chuck graduated from Sutherland High School. In 1979 he joined the United States Air Force. He was active in the military until retirement from duty, honorably in 1994. Chuck also worked as a truck driver for Ashley Furniture.
On February 20, 1981 Chuck was united in marriage to Lori Kiracofe in Lake Tahoe, California. To this union five children were born: Renil “Charlie” Jr., Nicholas, Steven, Alexis and David.
Chuck had such a big, bright, larger than life personality and he loved helping people. He enjoyed spending time with “his girlfriend”, his 77’ Monte Carlo and golfing in his spare time. Chuck had so much love to give to all his family and friends and he usually had everyone in stitches with the many jokes he would tell. He adored them all so much. Holidays were a special time for Chuck. Being with his family, he kept the laughter rolling during many gatherings by pulling pranks on his kids and grandkids. His sense of humor never wavered, even during the hard, fifteen-month long battle with pancreatic cancer. He had a sense of humor to the end. Often quoting movie lines with his kids and grandkids that everyone else in the room didn’t quite understand, but he always made you laugh.
Left with decades of fond and colorful prank filled memories are his loving wife, Lori Van Overbeke of Alden, Iowa; children, Renil “Charlie” Jr. (Lisa) Van Overbeke of Forest City, Iowa, Nicholas “Nick” Van Overbeke of Omaha, Nebraska, Steven Van Overbeke of Alden, Iowa, Alexis (Danny) Buckingham of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and David Van Overbeke of Alden, Iowa; grandchildren: Genna, Karagyn, Mark and Brooks; siblings, David (Sandy) Van Overbeke of Rochester, Minnesota, Janelle (Denny) Horstman of Marcus, Iowa, Nancy (Doyle) Woltman of Spencer, Iowa, Mary (Rick) Giese of Sutherland, Iowa, Tom (Kim) Van Overbeke, of Okoboji, Iowa and Patty (Tony) Ahlman of Tonto Basin, Arizona and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Van Overbeke.
Memorial Mass will be October 8, 2022 at 1 PM at the St. James Parrish, 906 West O St. in Forest City, Iowa 50436. Family is asking you to wear the “FIGHT LIKE CHUCK” shirts if you have them. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local food bank.
