Wins elude Wolverines at Cherokee Tourney
South O’Brien made the short journey to Cherokee September 17 to take part in the Cherokee Volleyball Tournament. The Wolverines returned home without any wins, going 0-4 on the day.
Sioux City East topped the Wolverines 21-8 and 21-11. South O’Brien lost 21-14 and 21-11 to the host Braves. MMCRU and the Wolverines split two sets with the Royals taking the first 21-15 and South O’Brien getting the equalizer 21-17. MMCRU controlled the deciding set, winning 15-3. The Wolverines lost a tight 21-17 set to Ridge View and then dropped the next 21-10. The losses left South O’Brien with a record of 3-13.
Claire Wagner and Marissa Ebel each totaled eight kills for the tournament. Whitney Einck finished with 27 set assists. Reaching double digits in digs for the day were Ebel with 18, Karlee Warnke with 14, Jinger Nieuwenhuis with 13, Brooklyn Edwards with 11 and Maddie Johnson with 10. Johnson was also 22-of-23 serving with five ace serves. Ebel served 22-of-24 with two aces.
