FFA Team Competes

Seniors Josie Brown, Sam Wilbur, and Alyssa Van Beek participated in the state Food Science Competition that was held at Iowa State University in Ames. The team prepared by studying scents of various spice aromas, test questions, food safety and sanitation requirements, and for the product development portion of the event, created a presentation for a breakfast bar product. The team chose to formulate a raspberry flavored breakfast bar. The product development objectives included: creating the packaging, nutrition and ingredient label, product name, cost, a quality control program, and marketing plan. The team finished fourth overall out of 19 teams and placed first in the Product Development practicum with a perfect score. Senior Josie Brown said “I enjoyed creating a product that was our own and presenting it to the judges.”
