Marker Repair at Pioneer Cemetery Continues
O’Brien County Cemetery Preservation Association (OCCPA) hosted two work nights at Covey Church Cemetery. The 10 people who came were able to attend Wednesday August 3 leveled two fairly large and heavy markers. A broken marker also got repaired. The repairs were made by 2 novices, Ruby and George Overmire, two of Tim and Laurena Overmire’s children, from near Hartley. Richard Radtke taught the duo how to roll and place setting compound to adhere broken pieces together. The next generation of Pioneer Cemetery caretakers did an excellent job, including trimming the compound seam.
On Thursday evening a smaller turnout still showed productivity. One last small stone was leveled and one more broken stone was repaired. A work plan was set to complete repairs at Covey Church Cemetery.
Saturday August 27 starting at 8:00am any volunteers are welcome to come to help with leveling of 3 large markers and repairing 2 of those. There are also 2 additional markers that have been repaired before but need attention again. One last grave needs it’s marker and base set properly. That work will complete (for now) the work needed to make Covey Church Cemetery appear clean and well cared for, because it will be.
