Late rally carries Trinity Christian past Wolverines
Trinity Christian rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for an 8-7 victory over South O’Brien June 24 at Hull. The Wolverines got a run in the top of the seventh but fell one run short. With the loss South O’Brien concluded War Eagle Conference play with a record of 0-10.
The Tigers opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning. The visitors responded with a four-spot in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead. Trinity tied things up with a tally in the bottom of the inning. A pair of runs in the top of the fourth sent South O’Brien back into the lead 6-4.
Trevor Fiddelke went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs. Dain Moermond was also 2-for 4. He had one RBI. Kester Grimm singled, walked twice, scored one run and drove in two. Brock Riedemann doubled, reached on an error and had one RBI.
Cole Tjossem singled, walked and scored a run. Mitchell Enger hit a double. Boston Riedemann reached on an error, drove in a run and scored a run. Ben Woodall drew two walks, stole three bases and scored a run. Camden Stevens walked and scored. Baserunners David Bottjen and Gabe Moermond each scored a run.
Fiddelke pitched all six innings. He allowed nine hits. Five of the eight runs were earned. The sophomore hurler struck out one batter and walked two. The Wolverines were guilty of five errors.
