In a high scoring War Eagle Conference game June 24 at Hull, the Wolverines were able to come out on top of Trinity Christian with a huge seventh-inning rally. South O’Brien was down 8-10 going into the top of the seventh. To start the inning Grace Fuhrman and Annika Jenness hit back to back solo home runs to tie the game up at 10-all. Karlee Warnke drew a walk and advanced to third on a base hit from Marissa Ebel. Ebel stole second to put runners at second and third. Then there was a strikeout and a batter called out of the box on a bunt. With two outs Abby Schreck, who had already hit a pair of doubles and a single in the game, got intentionally walked to load the bases. Payton Farquhar came to the plate and on the first pitch ripped a shot to right center, which scored three runs to put the Wolverines up 13-10. Fuhrman got out of the seventh inning without allowing Trinity to score any runs. This was a big conference win for our team at this point of the season!
Leading the offensive charge tonight were Schreck and Farquhar. Schreck had two doubles, a single, three runs and an RBI. Farquhar hit a double and two singles, and had three RBI’s. Fuhrman hit the home run and a single and Jenness had the home run. Maddie Johnson and Ebel each hit a pair of singles. Warnke had a base hit bunt. There were a whopping 14 hits for the Wolverines.
Fuhrman threw a solid game. She struck out 10 while only allowing three walks. She did give up 11 hits and 10 runs, but just seven of those runs were earned. The Wolverines still had four errors on defense, but kept things under control for the most part.
