South O’Brien started their week off with an impressive 23-8 War Eagle Conference win over West Sioux at Ireton on Monday June 6. Neither team scored in the first inning of play, but in the second South O’Brien crossed the plate six times. West Sioux came back in the third inning with five runs of their own to cut the deficit to 6-5 still in favor of South O’Brien.
A huge 12-run inning for the Wolverines put them up 18-5. The Falcons scored two in the bottom of the fourth to keep the game going with a score of 18-7. South O’Brien then went on to score five more in the fifth and held the Falcons to just one run to end the game by the 10-run rule.
Annika Jenness had the big hit of the night with a grand slam and also a single, four RBI’s and four runs scored. Maddie Johnson went 3-for-4 with three RBI’s, a run and a run scored by her pinch runner, Tatiana Conley. Karlee Warnke hit a pair of singles, scored twice and had three RBI’s. Alyssa Van Beek ripped a double, had four RBI’s and scored a run. Also collecting singles were Abby Schreck, Payton Farquhar, Grace Fuhrman, Marissa Ebel, Sam Wilbur and Kenna Bauer. This was a great offensive night for our team!
Fuhrman and Bauer split the pitching duties. Fuhrman gets the win and pitched three innings. She gave up four hits, five runs (all earned), walked two and struck out two. Bauer threw the final two innings, giving up three hits and three runs (all earned), walking three and striking out three. They were a good combination of different speeds and pitches. The defense had three errors, but they were spread out enough that they didn’t hurt us too much.
