Gehlen Catholic was in Paullina for a War Eagle Conference match-up on Wednesday June 8. No scoring happened in the first inning for either team. South O’Brien got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second. Grace Fuhrman had a leadoff double and Marissa Ebel came in to courtesy run for her. Ebel scored on a base hit by Karlee Warnke. The third inning was scoreless.
In the fourth Gehlen scored two runs off of four hits and took the 2-1 lead, which would end up being the final score of the game. South O’Brien got Abby Schreck to third base in the sixth, but could not get her home. Fuhrman got to second base in the seventh, but could get no farther. The chances were there, we just couldn’t get the big hit when we needed it. Gehlen has a very good pitcher in Riley Schnepf, who struck out 10 Wolverine batters on the night.
Fuhrman led all hitters with a pair of singles and a run scored by her courtesy Ebel. Schreck had a double and Warnke had the RBI single. The Wolverines had just two errors in the game. Fuhrman took the loss on the mound, but pitched a nice game. She allowed eight hits, two earned runs, struck out four and did not walk any. This was a clean well-played game on both sides.
