Akron-Westfield scored one run in the first inning, seven in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth, while South O’Brien only scored one run in the fourth inning, ending the game in a 13-1 loss June 10 at Akron. The Wolverines fell to 1-5 in War Eagle Conference play.
A-W is very aggressive on the bases and we were not ready for that. They also beat us with a lot of small ball, including a lot of bunts and slaps. Not many hits went out of the infield. South O’Brien only committed one error on the evening, but the Westerners’ offense was just too much.
Grace Fuhrman pitched part way into the second inning and takes the loss, giving up up four hits and six runs (all earned), striking out one and walking three. Kenna Bauer threw the last three innings and gave up six hits and seven runs (all earned), struck out one and walked four. Fuhrman had a double in the game and an RBI. Jinger Nieuwenhuis, Abby Schreck, and Alyssa Van Beek each had a single.
