HMS came to Paullina May 31 and took home a 12-7 War Eagle Conference win. The Wolverines were up 3-0 through four innings of play and things were looking good. HMS then scored four runs in the fifth to go up 4-3. South O’Brien came back with a couple of runs to take the 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth before HMS went up 6-5 in the sixth. In the top of the seventh HMS scored six times to make it a 12-5 lead. The Wolverines could only muster two runs in the seventh to end the game with a 12-7 loss.
South O’Brien did not play very good defense, as they committed seven errors as a team and some of them ended up being very costly. Only six of the Hawks’ runs were earned.
Grace Fuhrman pitched the entire game and gave up 12 hits, struck out six and walked five. On the offensive side of things the Wolverines only had four total hits. Jinger Nieuwenhuis had a single, scored a run and drove in three runs. Karlee Warnke singled and had an RBI. Annika Jenness had a base hit and scored two runs. Payton Farquhar had a hit and scored once. None of the three parts of the game, pitching, defense or hitting was very good tonight. We are capable of playing at a higher level.
