In one final competition prior to the State Qualifying Meet, South O’Brien’s girls track and field team finished third at the Sioux Central Track Meet held May 9 at Sioux Rapids. The Wolverines earned a total of 107 points. The only teams to score more were the host Rebels with 136 points and Pocahontas Area with 115.
Karlee Warnke won the long jump and the 200 meters and joined Kenna Bauer, Taja Conley and Takara Conley to capture the distance medley relay. The other first-place finish was achieved by Willa Sickelka in the 100 meters.
Warnke and Sickelka were part of the runner-up 4×100 meter team which included Abby Schreck and Kenna Bauer as well. Second place also went to Taja Conley in the 400 meter hurdles.
Finishing third were Maddie Johnson in the shot put and the sprint medley relay of group of Maddy Friedrichsen, Schreck, Annika Jenness and Taja Conley. Placing fourth was Takara Conley in the 1500 meters. Three relays grabbed fourth as well: the 4×400 of Takara Conley, Bauer, Regan Draper and Taja Conley, the 4×800 of Draper, Mariella Smith, Elodie Wilson and Tatiana Conley and the shuttle hurdle relay of Schreck, Abigail Nelson, Marissa Ebel and Bauer.
