Wagner competed in the FFA Job Interview leadership contest
Grant Wagner, a junior at South O’Brien, competed in the FFA Job Interview leadership contest at the NE Sub-Districts contest held in Sheldon. Wagner composed a resume, along with a cover letter . Grant spent weeks preparing for the contest, by composing a resume, along with a cover letter explaining why he would be qualified for the job; a meat cutter at HyVee, filling out job application forms, and working on answering interview questions. Contestants can choose any job related to agriculture, but Grant decided on a meat cutter due to his experience of meat judging and working in a grocery store. Wagner’s favorite part was speaking with the judges and getting feedback. He received a silver rating.
Wagner also applied for a NW Iowa District FFA Officer position. He first sent in an application. He, along with the other candidates, were interviewed at Dordt University. The morning consisted of multiple interviews about his Supervised Agricultural Experience projects and leadership experience, as well as a written test covering his knowledge of FFA.
Grant was excited to make the ballot and be slated for the office of Vice President. He spent three weeks preparing a two minute speech, which he presented to the NW voting delegates at the District Leadership Convention in Pocahontas. Wagner was not elected to office, but he feels this was a great learning experience and would like to run for State Office next year.
