The Return of Evening Outings to Primghar

“The Cobblestone Bar,” aka “TCB” opened its doors on Friday April 29. Its original opening date was postponed due to a delay from the State for the liquor license approval. TCB is now open Tuesday through Thursday from 2:00pm until 10:00pm and Friday and Saturday 2:00pm to 2:00am.
Marshall and Jessica Whitney recently moved to Primghar from Everly. The couple lived a few years under the stress of living in one community while each worked in a second and third community. Jessica came to Kids Kampus in Primghar in October as the assistant director. She learned of the opportunity presented by the unoccupied bar in November. Marshall had commuted to Milford from Everly for 5 years. He served West-O Brewery as head brewer. The community with limited food options and no evening or entertainment venue screamed to the young couple.
Jessica and Marshall agree that living and working in the same community is great! They love it.
Jessica grew up with her family in Sheldon. Her parents, Jim and Tammy Behrens, partners in TCB moved back to Primghar about 18 months ago. Marshall is a Graettinger native. He spent time experiencing all parts of Iowa in both educational opportunities and a variety of work.
The family prepared for opening night inside by painting throughout and refinishing the floor in the party room and the bar. The restrooms in the party room also got improvements. The restrooms in the main room are still under construction along with the kitchen.
The grand opening on Friday “was a blast,” said Jessica! “Time went so fast.” She described how 6 bartenders worked at break-neck speed all the way to 1:30 before they could stop for a quick break.
Acquiring the bar included getting the empty lot behind a façade. They look forward to fencing the back of the empty lot and creating an inviting beer garden space, maybe even with some incorporation of the old street “cobblestones,” the bar’s namesake.
