Camp Fire Council Fire May 16, At City Park – The Sutherland area Camp Fire Girls will hold a Council Fire Tuesday evening. May 16th in the Sutherland Park. It will begin at 7:30 and is for all Camp Fire Girls, their parents, and is open to the public for anyone who is interested. The girls will receive their awards earned in their Camp Fire work. Some have earned beads, ties and some have advanced in rank, for which they will receive emblems. Refreshments will be served in the shelter house following the ceremony.
“Song Of The South” At Theatre May 13,14 – Showing at the Sutherland Theatre this weekend will be Walt Disney’s “Song of the South” with Uncle Remus and the familiar characters of his tales. The picture is from the stories by Joel Chandler Harris.
Annual Flower Show Scheduled For June 13 The Federated Woman’s Club has scheduled the annual flower show for June 13, 1972 at the Legion Community Building. This year’s theme is “Iowa, A Place To Grow” Mrs. W.R. Steinert, chairman, states that she and her committee have planned an exciting and interesting program this year. There will be many added features to make it a truly special event. One added feature will be a division in artistic design for men only. This is open to the designer’s choice, so men, get busy and come up with something unique.

T&C Gab Gets Ready for Summer – About 30 members of the Town and Country Saddle Club busied themselves at the clubgrounds Sunday afternoon, April 25. They put new tire in the arena, picked up rocks, painted the exterior of the lunchstand, plus the general clean-up in preparation for the first fun night, May 8.
Tigerettes at Hawkette Meet – The Tigerettes ran in a one class twelve team meet at the Hartley Hawkette meet Friday, April 30. The girls finished sixth with Milford takin g first, followed by MO C Laurens Marathon, Little Rock and Marcus. Results First Places 220 yd. Dash Jan Horstmann 28.33 Second Place 440 yd. relay 54.06 Fiddelke, Weaver, Jan and Jean Horstmann Third place High Jump: 4′ 11″ , Lori Rehder 860 yd Relay: 1:53.47 Fiddelke, Weaver, Jan and Jean Horstmann Fifth Places 220 Yd. Dash: 29.44 Jean Horstmann Shuttle Hurdle : 75.76 DeBoom, M. Negus, Jungjohan, Essick Sixth Places Long Jump 14’8 ” Julie Weaver 2 mile relay 12:05.3 Rohrbaugh, Rahbusch, Fessler, Horton.
High School and Junior High Raise $778.20 – The Jump Rope for Heart Fund received a check for $778.20 from the Jr.-Sr. High Jum p Rope for Heart participation. The school will receive a check for 10 percent of the total to be used for their physical education and athletic programs.
Blke-A-Thon Postponed – The Bike-A-Thon headed by Judy Sweeney for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has been postponed until this fall. The exact date will be announced later.

KIDS & ADULTS…BRING YOUR PETS TO THE PET SHOW – Millie’s Rest Home will be sponsoring a Pet Show at 2 p.m. on Sat., May 16th. Kids & adults arc invited to bring their favorite pet to the nursing home at that time. The residents will immensely enjoy seeing the animals. The community is also invited to come visit and enjoy the pet show also!
ENGELKE REPAIR HOLDS OPEN HOUSE – The new Snapper mowers will be on display during the Open House of Engelke Repair to be held May 15 & 16. Owner Butch Engelke invites everyone to come in and look around. Refreshments will be served. Ribbon Cutting ceremony will be held by the Sutherland Commercial Club at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 15th.
