CITY-WIDE RUMMAGE SALE DAY The annual Sutherland garage sale day will be held Sat., April 25lh with sales beginning at 8 a.m. If you are interested in having a sale, please contact Vicki Newell at 446-3364 to have it listed. NWI SPECIAL OLYMPICS TRACK AND AQUATICS MEET Northwest Iowa Special Olympics Track and Aquatics meets will be held on Saturday, April 18, 1992, at the Sioux Center Athletic Field. Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Individuals from a nine county area will compete in this event. The public is urged to attend.
REPUBLICAN WOMEN T O MEET: The O’Brien County Republican Women’s Club will meet in the Primghar Court House on the morning of April 24, for a nine o’clock coffee. The meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. with the program on “Domestic Abuse” by Phylis Vanden Hull, Director of the Domestic Violence Aid Center, Sioux Center, Iowa. Sutherland members will host the coffee.
MRS. FRED GRANDY TO APPEAR IN PAULLINA: Mrs. Fred (Catherine Mann) Grandy will be honored at a Silver Tea by the O’Brien County Republican Women’s Club on Wednesday, May 6, at the Paullina Legion Community Building, two until four p.m. The public is invited to welcome her to Northwest Iowa. More details will be available in next week’s paper.
BAND AND VOCAL CONCERT POSTPONED The Sutherland 5th through 8th grade band and vocal concert that was originally scheduled for April 29 has been postponed to Tuesday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. EASTER BUNNY COMING TO SUTHERLAND On Saturday, April 18 the Easter Bunny will be in Sutherland to visit with the children. Sutherland to Have Cable TV Soon – On Tuesday. April 6 Sutherland people voted on the 25-year cable TV franchise offered by CSMI Cable Co. of Milford. The issue was passed by a 121 yes. 9 no vote. Those people in Sutherland who want to hook up to the system will be enjoying cable TV in the near future.
Important City Council Meeting – The Sutherland City Council will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, April 20, 1982 at 7:30 p.m. in the back room of the Old P.O. They will be discussing the possibility of re-doing the streets and sidewalks on 2nd Street between Ash Street and Main Street, and Main Street between 1st Street and 2nd Street. They also will be discussing center parking on these two streets. Please contact the Mayor or City Clerk if you are unable to attend.
Slowpitch Meeting – A meeting of the summer slowpitch league will b e held in the back room of the Old P.O. on Friday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. All players and coaches are urged to attend, or anyone who wants to join a team, or form one of their own. Refreshments will be served following the meeting.

School Boards Meet To Discuss Problems- Recently the three Boards of Education from Paullina, Sutherland and Primghar met to discuss enrollment in -the three schools. All of the schools are experiencing1 a decline in enrollment to the | extent that a tight situation exists in financing the school’s operation. Recently the state general assembly adopted into law H.F. 654 which regulates the spending of j a school district by limiting it to the school’s enrollment. No longer can a school district increase its spending by raising the mill levy on property. Actually the mill levy is now frozen, it cannot be raised.
Fire Dep’t Will Welcome Donated Blankets The Sutherland Fire Department will welcome the donation of blankets, which can be used in their work. The blankets may be used and worn.
