On Monday March 21 the Paullina Council heard the coming year’s insurance proposal from Kent Faust, South O’Brien Insurance. The city carries $11 million in coverage for buildings. The light plant is not covered for replacement cost due to the generators. They are on actual replacement cost.
Three coverages went down in premium but overall the premium went up, mostly due to property valuations. Faust pointed out to the council that changing the deductible from $1000 to $2500 the city would pay $2600 less in premiums. The city has experienced few property claims. Increasing the deductible on vehicles to $1000 would have a saving of $560, but should there be any vehicle claims there would not be a cost savings. The city has more vehicle claims than property claims.
Council decided to increase the property deductible and kept the vehicle deductible the same.
The 2023 budget was passed with no public comment.
Three bids for the city’s financial examination were accepted. Council stayed with Williams and Company.
Steve Halgren presented his business, “Planning Solutions” to the council on March 7. Council discussed the offers of Halgren and considered the work done with him prior. The decided to ask for a proposal from him for grant writing and perhaps zoning administration.
