CITY-WIDE RUMMAGE SALE DAY The annual Sutherland garage sale day will be held Sat., April 25th with sales beginning at 8 a.m. If you are interested in having a sale, please contact Vicki Newell at 446-3364 to have it listed.
“SCENES OF SUTHERLAND” QUILT Another Sutherland quilt is to be assembled and raffled off at the Labor Day celebration in September. Those wishing to have their name embroidered on the quilt may do so at Schmedlap’s Pizza for a $1.00 donation. The quilt will be all hand embroidered with “Scenes of Sutherland”. Raffle tickets will be sold. Proceeds will be used for materials needed for the 1993 quilt.
New business welcomed to town – Sutherland is moving in an upward trend. Another new business will be opening on April 8th. Peg Petersen is in the process of stocking shelves for Peg’s Floral ‘n Gift Shop, a versatile all-around flower and gift shop. Peg’s Floral ‘n Gift Shop Will be occupying the southwest corner of the Pioneer Building located at 118 North Main. Her husband, Jerry, will continue to utilize the rest of the building for his Pioneer seed corn business.

Grant wonders in 4-H V-Ball Tournament – On March 13 Grant Wonders 4-H Club participated in a volleyball tournament in Archer. We won one set and lost two. We held a business meeting following and decided to go on a field trip to Spencer April 17. We then returned to the home of Nancy Jungjohan, one of our leaders, where she served a noon lunch. We then worked on our projects for Mother’s Day.
Ruritan Soup Supper March 31 – The Sutherland Ruritan will be holding a soup supper on Wednesday, March 31 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The y will b e serving vegetable beef soup, chili, and chicken gumbo with corn bread, dessert, coffee and juice. It will b e held at the Sutherland Legion Community Building. S2.50 for adults, $1.50 for children 12 and under and pre-schoolers are free. There will be entertainment during the supper by the high school swing band. All proceeds will go toward the Sutherland Centennial Fund.
Dinner Theatre March 26 and 27 – The seventh annual Sutherland high school dinner theatre will be presented this Friday and Saturday nights. Tickets arc still available at Gary’s TV in Sutherland. Make plans to join the cast for a full evening’s entertainment. The cast has been working hard preparing for a fun-filled evening. If you can’t join us for the entire evening show, bleacher tickets only will be available at the door with the play starting around 8 o’clock.
Chris Selk Brings Home I’s from Speech Contest – Sutherland high school participated in the state speech contest Saturday, March 20 at Lake Mills. Eight Sutherland students participated in 12 events, coming home with 7 I ratings. Chris Selk received 2 I ratings, with an outstanding performer award in radio news announcing. This qualifies Chris to participate in an All-State festival at UNI on April 5.

Stores To Be Open Friday Nights – A number of Sutherland merchants announce they will open for business on Friday, nights, beginning April 7.
Community Chores Sings to Full Honse The Community Chorus presented the Easter cantata, “No Greater Love” on Palm Sunday evening to a full house at the Sutherland Legion Community Building. The cantata was a union presentation by all the churches in the Sutherland, Calumet and Larrabee communities.
