Short Rings of the Bell – ROSEDALE CLUB Rosedale Club will meet at the home of Verna Van Beek on Friday, March 20 at 2 p.m. Roll call will be spring time project. Verna will have charge of the program.
GIRL SCOUT LEADERS Girl Scout leaders will meet on Monday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m. at the Pizza Ranch. Please note date change.
Akeson’s love knows no bounds – If a person looked up the word “volunteer”” in the dictionary it might say, “See Doris Akeson.” Doris, according to Primghar Care Center Director Sandy DuBay, is a ray of sunshine to the residents she visits each week. “She gives lots, and lots, and lots of hugs,” says Sandy.
40 years ago – 1982
Hallie Cobb will not seek re-election – Hallie Cobb, O’Brien County Recorder since 1963, announced this week that she will not seek re-election to that position. In discussing her decision not to seek another term, Miss Cobb expressed her gratitude for the loyal support she has always received from the people of O’Brien County. She said that her work has been truly rewarding and she has enjoyed serving in the office of county recorder.
Kinsley accepted at S.Y. Hospital – Jon Kinsley, a junior at Northwestern College in Orange City, has been accepted into the medical technology program at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. for the 1982-83 year. Kinsley, working towards a B.A. degree in Biology, will finish his senior year at the hospital.- While there he will gain experience in testing blood samples and other duties associated with the medical technology field. Kinsley has been active in Chapel Choir, Intramurals and various groups while at Northwestern. He is the son of Mr.’ and Mrs. Otho Kinsley of Primghar.
CITY BUDGET HEARING MARCH 11 – A public hearing on proposed ’82-’83 Primghar budget will be held March 11 at 4 p.m. in the council chambers at the light plant. At this time, any resident may present objections to or arguments in favor of any part of the proposed budget.
ANTIQUE VALENTINES Antique valentines are one of several things Mrs. George Herron of Clarinda has collected in the past. She began collecting the old valentines about 15-20 years ago, purchasing some which date back to 1909 and 1911. The ones she chose for her collection are lacy valentines with intricate patterns and ones brimming with gooey messages which proclaim burning passion for sweethearts.- The Clarinda Herald-Journal.
SET PANCAKE FEAST DATE Primghar Community Playhouse has scheduled their second annual pancake feast on Saturday, April 10. Mark you calendar!
PYRAMID COFFEES TO MARCH 20 Primghar Woman’s Club pyramid coffees in support of needed 2-way radios for the Primghar Fire Department will be continued through March 20. It is hoped that when you are invited to one of these coffees you will remember this important need. And gals, get those coffees rolling! Money is to be turned in to Barb Craun.

This year, as a community, we need much faith and confidence in our own ability to bring the light of new progress and persuasion to bear upon old problems which are beginning to get a death-like grip upon the community.
Nursery School to open March 10 – Mrs. Arvin Velburg has announced March 10 as the opening day for the annual nursery school spring session. The nursery school program features readiness activities, group experiences, and creative activities. These activities include language development, literature and dramatization, music and rhythms, and motor development. Children ages 3 to 5 are eligible to attend. Mrs. Verburg, a former kindergarten teacher, will be the teacher. As in past years, nursery school will be in the rural Verburg home.
