Closed Sessions of Governing Bodies Never a Good Sign
By Mari Radtke
Two O’Brien County governing bodies put out closed session agendas on consecutive days. First, O’Brien County Conservation Board announced a special closed session to be held at the Assembly Room in the Courthouse in Primghar for Wednesday February 16 at 10:00am.
A second closed session was announced for the O’Brien County Supervisors to be held on Thursday February 17 at the Assembly Room at 4:00pm.
Both agendas items were announced:
To discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the government body in that litigation. Iowa Code 21.5(1)(c).
Minutes from the Conservation Board meeting are not available at press time. The O’Brien County Supervisors’ minutes say that the meeting was call to order at 4:04 p.m. with all members present and that there was approval to accept the agenda. The meeting adjourned at 5:44 p.m.
In open session a motion was made by Dan Friedrichsen and seconded by John Steensma to authorize the County Attorney, Rachael Becker, to proceed with negotiations as directed. The motion passes unanimously.
No other information about existing or potential litigation is available at press time.
