Florebel Hoppe

Florebel Hoppe age 91 of Sibley, Iowa died Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Sibley Specialty Care.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, February 11, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley with Pastor Tim Nappe, officiating. Burial will follow in the Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 10th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.
Florebel Mae Hoppe was born on May 13, 1930, in Fort Dodge, IA, the daughter of Richard Raymond and Marie B. (Schwabbauer) Tigner. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, IA. Following graduation, she attended Fort Dodge Junior College and State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. In the fall of 1949, Florebel accepted a teaching job at Gaza Consolidated School. While there she met the love of her life, Marvin Hoppe. They were married August 9, 1951, on Marv’s 20th birthday. To this union four children were born. Bradley John in 1957, Valerie Ann in 1959, Douglas William in 1963, and Alan Ray in 1969.
They lived in Primghar for 41 years. During this time Florebel was busy with her family. She was a girl scout leader and den mother. She taught Sunday school, was Sunday school superintendent, served on the WELCA board as secretary, sang in the choir, and was on the education board all at the Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar, IA.
She also was Head Start teacher for 16 years and served on the Community Building Board as secretary.
Florebel always put family first. She loved to cook and bake, and reading was a passion. In 2008, Marv and Florebel moved to Sibley, IA. She loved spending time with her youngest son’s family and grandchildren, Alec and Claire, and attending their school activities. They were the joy of her life.
Florebel is survived her children: Bradley, Valerie, Douglas and Alan (Brenda); two grandchildren, Alec (Sarah) and Claire; special friends, Rob and Jan Walton; nieces, nephews and many other friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marv of 62 years, who died on December 3, 2013; parents; sister, Barbara Halbach Sundeen; and two brothers, Richard and Dale Tigner.
