City Council Meeting – Special City Hall – Paullina, Iowa – 5:30 P.M. December 13, 2021
A special meeting was called to order this date by Mayor John Ihle. Roll call was answered by Council Members Carol Honkomp, Steve Heeren, Jean Unrau, Lexy Murphy and Jay Jones; Superintendent Kelly Top, City Clerk Sandy Fritz, Also present: Mari Radtke, Brenda Ebel Kruse and Trenton Morton.
The following proceedings were had, to-wit:
Murphy moved and Honkomp seconded the motion to approve the agenda for the December 13, 2021 special meeting. Motion carried by all ayes.
Fritz presented the council with the Paullina Employee Committees recommendations for hiring, vacation time, dental and vision insurance, overtime and on call time, licenses and cell phones.
The council reviewed each section of the recommendation.
Heeren moved and Murphy seconded the motion to hire Kelly Top as the Superintendent of Utilities with a starting salary of $70,720, raise Kaden Hewletts wages to $28 per hour, hire Joshua Biery and Richard Van Beek Jr. at $18.50 per hour. Motion carried by all ayes.
Fritz was asked to adjust the vacation schedule and all vacation request will need to be in writing and approved by the department head. Fritz was asked to quote dental and vision insurance.
Heeren moved and Unrau seconded the motion to remove the 8 hours overtime for working a weekend. The employee required to work the weekend will work from 7:30 a.m. to noon on the Friday before he has to be on call and will be paid for the afternoon off. Motion carried by all ayes. Employees will be on call every fourth weekend of the month. All employees will be on call when there is a snow event.
Wage increases for Fritz and Engelke will be discussed at the next meeting. The Deputy Clerk positon should be a full time position. Cell phones will be discussed at a later date.
Fritz stated will have a substantial increase in the price for the Ball Diamond lights and the aeration system. We also need to make improvements in our electrical switch gear. A new ambulance and tanker truck is still on the schedule for this budget year. Repairs need to be made to Mayme Street. Replacing current utility trucks and the digger truck is needed. A new fire station was discussed.
The time being 7:10 p.m. Heeren moved and Honkomp seconded the motion to adjourn. Motion carried by all ayes.
