Orabs get in the win column by downing Wolverine girls
A pair of teams looking for their first victory of the young season met December 4 at Sheldon. It was the host Orabs who got off to the good start and then finished the job by defeating South O’Brien 60-30. The Wolverines end the first two weeks of the season with an 0-4 mark. Meanwhile, Sheldon improved to 1-3.
South O’Brien was outshot 47 percent to 27 percent. Sheldon was good on 24 of their 51 field goal tries while the Wolverines were able to hit just 10 of their 37 shots. From three-point range South O’Brien was 4-of-11 and the Orabs 5-of-13. Sheldon dropped in seven of their 10 free throw attempts. The Wolverines were 6-of-14 at the line.
Riley Draper notched three of the visitors long range baskets and finished with 14 points. Scoring four points apiece were Alyssa Van Beek, Kenna Bauer and Tatiana Conley. Marissa Tavarez-Ebel added three points and Ashlyn Gimer one. Willa Sickelka recorded three assists.
Conley made three steals and Sickelka swiped the ball two times. Sickelka was also the top rebounder with three. Draper and Van Beek each grabbed two caroms. Sheldon finished with a 33-11 edge on the boards, led by Maliah Kleinhesselink with 10 rebounds. Payten Lode’s 14 points led a balanced Orab scoring attack.
