Schreck Collects 8 RBI’s in Comeback Win

Junior catcher Abby Schreck hit a home run, a double and a single and brought in eight runs in a 14-10 comeback win against MMCRU June 23 at Remsen!
The Wolverines found themselves behind 4-0 after four innings of play, but in the fifth inning the bats started getting hot. In the top of the fifth South O’Brien scored five runs to take the 5-4 lead. Jinger Nieuwenhuis started off the inning and was replaced by pinch runner Karlee Warnke, who advanced to second on a ground out. Then Kenna Bauer and Hannah Dau had back-to-back singles. Willa Sickelka then drove in two runs with a base hit. The final two runs of the inning came on Schreck’s home run.
MMCRU came back with three runs off of four hits to regain a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth the Wolverines plated five more runs to go up 10-7. Nieuwenhuis and Schreck had singles and Annika Jenness doubled in the inning. The Royals went three up, three down in the sixth. In the top of the seventh South O’Brien scored four more runs to make the score 14-7. Schreck doubled and Jenness singled in the frame. MMCRU tried their best to come back, but could only muster three runs to make the final score 14-10.
Grace Fuhrman got the win on the mound. She pitched 6-1/3 innings and gave up seven hits, seven runs (five earned), walked one and struck out seven. Kenna Bauer threw the other 2/3 of an inning and gave up two hits, three earned runs, and walked two.
Schreck was on fire at the dish, smacking a home run, a double and a single, scoring three runs and recording eight RBI’s. Jenness hit a double and a single, while collecting two RBI’s and scoring a run. Dau, Nieuwenhuis, and Maddie Johnson had two singles apiece. Dau scored three runs. Sickelka had a base rap and scored three times. Kaylee Jacobs and Bauer each had RBI singles. It was great to see our hitters come alive late in the game and make the comeback!
