Communities’ Wells Holding Up
By Mari Radtke
City Councils across the area are asking utility personnel if their city wells have enough water. Last week, the Paullina City Council considered if it was time to implement their 4-part water shortage plan. It turns out implementing the plan is not necessary. The well that services Paullina water customers is doing well. And with weekend rains, water concerns may have been relieved just a little. And in this drought, everything helps.
Discussion of the proposed contract with RML Architects, LLC of Sioux City about a proposed EMS building resulted in questions with no answers. Mike Neswick is asked to come personally to the July 6 council meeting. Among the concerns would be the requirement for the city to pay the contract amount after 2 years, even if the project is not completed.
Police Chief Nate Bremer reported he had contacted one of the former Conservation rangers asking about interest in being a 3rd police officer. Longer term thinking is that would give sufficient staffing to work an agreement with the City of Sutherland for police protection and provide reasonable work schedules for each officer at the same time. That person was not interested. He has made no more contact since that time.
