Unity Christian downs battling Wolverines 7-2

South O’Brien prevented a big inning by Unity Christian but the Wolverines were unable to score enough runs of their own. The Knights added to a three-run first with single runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth to defeat South O’Brien 7-2 June 17 at Paullina.
The Wolverines hung around against a Unity team with only two losses on the season. “We had the mindset that we were done letting games get away from us,” noted South O’Brien head coach Tanner Petersen. “We were going to stay in the game and be a thorn in their side for the night.”
The only two hits for the Wolverines came in the first inning of the War Eagle Conference contest. Wilson Millan led off with a single. Jett Keith delivered a two-out base hit to bring Millan home.
In the seventh inning Pete Bottjen reached base courtesy of a Unity error. Keith was hit by a pitch putting two runners aboard. With Bottjen on third, Keith took off from first, drawing a throw from the Knight catcher. That allowed Bottjen to come home for the second Wolverine run.
Keith was on base three times as he also reached on an error. It was another error that allowed Brock Riedemann to get on board. Millan drew the only walk of the game for South O’Brien.
Tyson Wulf took the loss. In three innings he yielded four runs on three hits. Three of the runs were earned. Wulf walked three batters, struck out two and hit two. Keith tossed the final four innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. He fanned four batters and hit one.
