Fuhrman Shines on the Mound Against Hinton
By Coach Heather Struve
Grace Fuhrman was nothing less than stellar in the pitcher’s circle against Hinton in a 2-1 conference win on June 14. She only gave up one hit, didn’t walk any batters and struck out four. She just gave up the one earned run and only three Hinton balls even made it out of the infield for the night. The South O’Brien defense matched up great with the pitching, as they only committed one error for the game.
Hinton scored their run in the bottom of the third on a triple to right field followed by a sacrifice fly to center field to go up 1-0. In the top of the fifth the Wolverines evened the score to 1-1 when Fuhrman drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Karlee Warnke who scored on a double by Kenna Bauer.
In the top of the sixth South O’Brien had one out and then loaded the bases with consecutive singles by Abby Schreck, Annika Jenness and Kaylee Jacobs. Fuhrman then drew another walk which allowed the run to score and the Wolverines to go up 2-1. Neither team would score for the remainder of the game.
Bauer led the offense with the RBI double. Schreck scored a run and hit a single. Jenness, Jacobs, and Maddie Johnson all had base hits in the contest. This was a huge conference win for the girls!
