South O’Brien girls take care of Sioux City North
By Coach Heather Struve
The Wolverines were tied 1-1 after one inning of play against Sioux City North, but then added a big five runs in the third to go up 6-1. SC North put three runs of their own up in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-4. South O’Brien added two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to go back up 8-4. Neither team scored in the fifth. In the sixth SC North scored once and South O’Brien scored 4 times to make the score 12-5. In the top of the seventh with one out Willa Sickelka made a nice catch on a fly ball at second and threw back to first to end the game with a double play.
The Wolverines hit with a lot of confidence this game. As a team they recorded 12 hits. Annika Jenness capped off her great day with an inside the park grand slam, two singles, six RBI’s and two runs scored! Grace Fuhrman ripped three singles, scored a run and had an RBI. Hannah Dau had a double and a single, drove in a run and scored three times out of the leadoff spot. Kaylee Jacobs had a pair of singles, scored once and had an RBI. Alyssa Van Beek ripped a triple and scored a run. Sickelka had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs.
Kenna Bauer went the distance and got the win on the mound. She was really hitting her spots and kept the hitters off balance. She gave up six hits, five runs (3 ER), walked 1 and struck out six. Our defense had four errors in the field, but didn’t ever let things get away from them as the errors were spread out over the game. The Wolverines record now stands at 5-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
