Alice Straub

Services for Alice Straub, age 91, of Paullina who passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020 at Pearl Valley Rehab in Sutherland. A private family graveside was held on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Prairie View Cemetery with Rev. Donald Erickson ~ officiating.
Arrangements were under the care of the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.
Alice Anna Straub, nee Karstens, was born on a farm in rural Liberty township on July 4th, 1928, to John and Elizabeth Karstens. She would call that farm her home for the rest of her life. Alice was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Reform Church of Calumet, Iowa. She attended grade school and high school at Calumet, graduating from Calumet High School in 1946. Even in her final days, she was ready to sing the Calumet fight song to whomever would listen. She was very proud of her Calumet heritage. She would go on to attend one semester of college at Morningside in Sioux City, Iowa. It was about that time that she was introduced, by her mother, to Kenneth Straub from Paullina, who happened to pick up their chicken eggs for the hatchery every day. They were married on February 15, 1948, on the farm they would share together for the rest of their lives. They were blessed with 5 children whom they taught about their Lord Jesus Christ. Kenny and Alice would continue to farm for many years. The love of her life, Kenny, would pass away on June 8, 2007. Alice continued to live on the farm until relocating to the Sutherland Nursing Home, where she passed away on June 22, 2020.
Her life kept her working on the farm, raising her children, caring for her father-in-law, and assisting anyone who needed the help. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, serving on Ladies Aid boards, and helping out at Zion Lutheran School where all her children attended. She loved traveling, going to various conventions with her husband, and also going to New York to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her graduation class with her classmates.
Alice leaves to cherish her memory her 5 children: Rebecca Krahling of Nuriootpa, South Australia; Vincent, and his wife, Pam Straub, from Spring, Texas; Joyce and her husband, Russ Brockmeier, from Sandy, Utah; Terry Straub, from rural Paullina; and Barb, and husband Kevin Wenninger of Winthrop, Minnesota; and 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceeded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents, her sister, Bessie Carlson, and a son-in-law, John Krahling from Australia.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
