Five members of the South O’Brien girls track and field team were crowned conference champions in a half-dozen events at the War Eagle Conference Meet held May 3 at Hartley. Willa Sickelka raced to wins in all three sprints: the 100, 200 and 400 meters. She also anchored the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays to victory. The other runners in those winning relays were Hannah Dau, Annika Jenness and Maddy Jungers. Also standing atop the conference is Karlee Warnke after capturing the long jump.
Takara Conley placed second in the 1500 meter run. She was also part of the runner-up 4×800 relay team along with Taja Conley, Grace Fuhrman and Sophia Faust. The other second-place finishers were Jenness in the 100 meters and the distance medley relay group of Dau, Warnke, Taja Conley and Faust.
Jenness turned in a third-place finish in the 200 meters. A pair of relays also placed third: the shuttle hurdle combo of Kenna Bauer, Marissa Ebel, Riley Draper and Abby Schreck and the sprint medley unit of Dau, Jungers, Warnke and Bauer.
Unity Christian ran away with the team championship, amassing 174 points. The Wolverines were second with 128 points and Hinton third with 90.
