South O’Brien girls top HMS golfers in home opener
The South O’Brien Girls Golf Team hosted their first home meet of the season at Primghar Golf Course on April 22, on a cool, windy night. It was set to be a double dual with Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and Trinity Christian. However, Trinity Christian did not field a team this year, so the meet became a dual between county rivals South O’Brien and HMS.
The Wolverines defeated HMS 219-233, and the match ended in a three-way tie between South O’Brien’s Kaeley Einck and Whitney Einck and Elise Haack of HMS. All three finished with a 52. After a check of handicap holes, Haack took medalist honors. Senior Kaeley Einck took second and sophomore Whitney Einck took third. Senior Breana Bottjen helped the Wolverine team score with a 55, which was good for the fourth-place medal. Rounding out the South O’Brien cards was sophomore Samantha Wilbur with a 58 for seventh place.
South O’Brien girls golf coach Kris Faust said, “It’s been tough to practice with the cold weather, but the girls showed their competitive spirit tonight in our first home meet of the season.” She added, “It’s always fun to bring home an O’Brien County rivalry win.”
