Archer Schedules Park Cleanup Day
By Mari Radtke
As we all get busy with spring, cleaning the closets, the windows, finishing the winter projects, the City of Archer is also readying several community cleanup projects. Archer’s city-wide cleanup day is scheduled for May 15. Place your unwanted items out at the curb for disposal. Certain items require payment.
Also on the cleanup calendar is the city park. The council has scheduled a city park cleanup day for May 22. Volunteers are being asked to come and help with raking, mowing, tree-cutting and hauling. The time is 10 – noon with a picnic-style lunch for volunteers to follow. During the discussion Bill Engeltjes notified the council that he is stepping back from mowing city property. The city pays $500 to do the mowing and other light grounds work for the summer, and provides the mower and gas.
The council also discussed replacing certain street signs. A list will be produced and the signs purchased from Iowa Prison Industries.
The discussion about paying for the tanker repairs continues. For now, the city covered the $18,000 still outstanding by Carroll Township. Arrangements for the township to cover the debt are being made. All other townships paid their portion in the prior budget year, but the bill came due this year. The change is part of the budget amendment approved by council on Tuesday April 13.
A potential library director/librarian has been selected. Required background checks are underway. The library is expected to reopen as soon as those results are reported.
