South O’Brien saw its first action of the week at the end of the week, taking part in the 31st Annual Hinton Blackhawk Girls Invite April 16. The Wolverines finished just one point out of second place with 107 points. The top two finishers in the 10-team field were Cherokee with 137 points and Hinton with 108. The Blackhawks were able to overtake South O’Brien by picking up eight points in the final event (4×400 relay) while the Wolverines added two points to their total.
Two individuals and one relay earned first-place finishes for South O’Brien. Karlee Warnke captured the high jump and Willa Sickelka was the winner of the 200 meter dash. That duo combined with Annika Jenness and Maddy Jungers to take the top spot in the sprint medley relay. In addition, Jenness was second in the 100 meter dash.
Four Wolverine relay units earned runner-up finishes. Jenness, Warnke and Sickelka teamed with Hannah Dau in both the 4×100 and 4×200 relays. The second-place 4×800 relay was made up of Taja Conley, Takara Conley, Grace Fuhrman and Sophia Faust. The distance medley relay earned second with Abby Schreck, Kenna Bauer, Dau and Faust.
Placing third was the shuttle hurdle relay group of Bauer, Schreck, Marissa Ebel and Riley Draper. Individually, Takara Conley earned a third-place finish in the 1500 meter run.
